Valentines or bust.

Oh to feel the romance in the air and sniff the scent of fresh roses sent to you from your favorite person in the world. Well, let me tell you, I've had some of the biggest arguments with 'favorite' people over the years on this hyped up day full of crazy expectations. The pressure! The expense! The disappointment! Not to mention the difficulty getting good service at overbooked restaurants. And what about those years when you're alone or sad?

At this point in my life, Valentine's Day is about setting boundaries with my kids over how much money I'll part with on Valentine cards and gifts for their classmates. Because in case you've been out of the loop for a while, keeping up with the 7 year old Joneses has gone beyond perforated sheets of puppy cards. It now involves pencils, magnets, stickers, candy, cake pops etc. One year, apparently suffering from significant mental illness, I made hand crafted lolly pops of 3 different colored chocolate needing to be separately melted and intricately layered in the molds. Shortly after, I discovered the dollar store and never looked back.

So if you're in need of a gift on Valentine's Day for yourself or someone else, of course I recommend a massage: A girl's gotta make a living after all! But if not, I encourage you to stock up on discounted 'day after' chocolate!

All the best during this shortest month, Lorryn
